St. Croix

1. Experience the thrill of zipping over the leafy rainforest with Carambola Zip Line. Suitable for kids (ages 10 and up) and adults alike, this thrilling experience allows families to soar through the treetops and appreciate the island’s natural beauty from a parrot’s perspective. Your journey begins with a safari-style ride to the tip-top of St. Croix. From there, choose from three ziplines, including the Gauntlet, which whisks adventurers 2,473 feet across the picturesque Carambola Valley.

2. Located along the waterfront, the 18th-century Fort Frederiksted, a National Historic Landmark and museum, features interactive exhibits that explore St. Croix’s colonial past. Kid-friendly nature trails meander through 16 acres of colorful tropical gardens and past historic ruins. Fort Frederiksted also offers a Junior Ranger Program. Pick up the Junior Ranger activity booklet at the information desk and earn badges while learning about the fort’s history and St. Croix’s cultural heritage.

3. Wander peaceful St. George Village Botanical Garden, where 16 acres are filled with over 1,000 Caribbean and tropical plants and trees. The garden also features ruins and restored buildings from the 18th-century Danish colonial sugar cane plantation that once stood on the land. Children age 10 and under receive free admission.

St. John

4. At Mermaid Swim VI, kids (and kids at heart!) can transform into beautiful mermaids with the help of special tails and fins. This fantastical experience includes a costume and monofin (with an option to purchase), hair accessories, rhinestone embellishments and a photo session with 10 free digital pictures.

5. Cinnamon Bay Beach in Virgin Islands National Park is the only beach on the islands where you can spend the night under the stars in a deluxe eco-tent, at Cinnamon Bay Beach & Campground. Cook your meals over a campfire or head to the on-site Rain Tree Cafe. Snorkel gear, paddleboards, kayaks and beach chairs are all available for rent. The campground also offers watersport lessons, guided ranger hikes and other fun family activities.

6. Dive in and snorkel one of the world’s most unique trails — the Trunk Bay Underwater Snorkel Trail. The easy-to-follow, 225-yard underwater path is lined with informative plaques about the surrounding vibrant marine life and coral reefs.

St. Thomas

7. Hop on the Skyride to Paradise Point, an aerial tram that whisks visitors 700 feet above St. Thomas Harbor. Souvenir shops, an open-air bistro, a bar serving its signature Baileys Bushwacker and incredible views await at the top. On sunny days, you can see St. Croix in the distance.

8. Water Island is just a short 10-minute ferry ride from Crown Bay Marina in St. Thomas. Rent a golf cart or bicycles to explore the small island with your family. Enjoy swimming, snorkeling and kayaking at picture-perfect Honeymoon Beach. Dig into lunch with your toes in the sand at Dinghy’s Beach Bar & Grill, where grown-ups can enjoy cocktails and the kids can take a dip in the calm waters.

9. Coral World Ocean Park is home to scores of fascinating marine creatures. Kids can join a shallow water session to play with sea lions and dolphins alongside their trainers. Or opt to set off on an underwater SNUBA adventure, minus the need for specialized training or oxygen tanks. Kids ages eight and older can experience the freedom of movement SNUBA offers while coming face-to-face with marine life.

10. At the Pirates Treasure Museum, kids can pilot a virtual pirate ship out of a storm and learn how fascinating artifacts are recovered from shipwrecks on the ocean floor. The two-story museum features hands-on exhibits and authentic treasures from the deep, including gold doubloons.
