Whether renting a vehicle or simply crossing a street, it is vital to remember that you must drive on the left side of the road. Speed limits are 15-20 mph in the country and 10 mph in town, unless otherwise posted.

Travel between St. John and St. Thomas

By Ferry: Visitors can travel hassle-free between the islands by public ferry.

To Red Hook: Rates: Hourly service between St. John and St. Thomas is available on a 15-minute ferry ride from Cruz Bay, St. John into Red Hook on the east end of St. Thomas. One way, $5.00/Adults and $1.00/Children ages 2-11. Seniors are $1.25.

Please note: There is a fuel surcharge of $1.10 each way. $2 per piece for luggage/boxes.

To Charlotte Amalie: Rates: From Cruz Bay to downtown Charlotte Amalie (45-minute ride), the ferry offers six daily trips to and from St. John. From STJ: 7:15am; 9:15am; 11:15am; 1:15pm; 2:15pm; and 3:45pm From STT: 9:00am; 11:00am; 1:00pm; 3:00pm; 4:00pm and 5:30pm

One way, $10.00/Adults and $3.00/Children ages 2-11. Seniors are $5.00 (VI Residents only, 62 years and up, proof of age must be shown).

Please note: There is a fuel surcharge of $1.10 each way. There is a charge of $2.50 per piece for luggage/boxes.

Car Ferry travel between St. John and St. Thomas
Another way to explore the islands on your own time! Passengers ride with their car at no additional charge.

Please note: The Port Authority charges a port fee of $3.00 for cars, SUVs and motorcycles, and $6 for trucks, vans and large SUVs. The 25-minute ride operates on the hour until 6:15pm.
